This website is an excellent idea. Readers should be aware that this practice is not simply limited to Wycliffe, but includes Frontiers as well.

I agree that this is a serious issue but caution against making generalities about Wycliffe. I believe this error applies to only a very few individuals within the Bible translation community.

It should be noted that at least THE SEED COMPANY and WYCLIFFE ASSOCIATES, both members of the larger Wycliffe family of ministries, have adopted very clear statements on this issue and will not participate in any translation projects where the Sonship of Christ is compromised.

Our family is sponsoring another "Missions At The Airport" event in Kidron, OH, Sept. 22-23, 2012, and we have adopted our own statement on this, which can be read at http://ohiomata.com/soc.htm.

It is unfortunate that this misguided concept has arisen in the Bible translation community. My family will continue to invest deeply into Bible translation because of the hundreds of millions who now have no way of learning of God's love in the language of their heart, but we accept the responsibility to do so with a greater level of discernment than has been necessary in the past. Brother Ken,
I checked your website but the link you gave did not work. I would like to read your guidelines. I am so thankful that you love the word of God and want the unreached people to have it in their own language. There are plenty of other organizations to support. Wycliffe indeed has adopted guidelines. I have looked at these carefully with a Bible Translation committee and found that (as one of us put it) "you can drive an 18 wheeler through these guidelines" The practice however is not as the claim. We have examined several translations and found them unfaithful in many ways one of them is the Sonship of Christ and Fatherhood of God. No other organization has gone this far although some mission groups have adopted the Wycliffe position. The fact that Wycliffe has had a long history does not exempt it from faithfulness. Please consider challenging them and if they do not accept, other groups can use your money better. I am a Bible translator who worked on several projects in the Muslim world including Arabic and Kurdish. You may contact me for more details if you like. georges@horizonsinternational.org

To Mr. Ken Stoltzfus:
Thank you for your kind note. Your website would indicate to me that you would have a long and lasting relationship with SIL/ Wycliffe. I want to affirm that. Might I ask you to look at the responses to the Wycliffe document that was in Mission Frontiers, and then ask yourself if it is not possible to use your influence to call SIL/Wycliffe to account for their actions in the Middle East and Asia?

Hi Ken,

I wish there were no specifics connected with Wycliffe as well, but when PCA announced their Overture 9 statement against this stuff, Larry Chico responded "at the request of both Wycliffe and SIL leadership" with plenty of specifics. PCA's response to Chico should be read and reread every time you have doubts about this issue at http://www.reformation21.org/Towards%20A%20Faithful%20Witness.pdf .
Of course, there are some within Wycliffe who don't agree, but apparently not enough to change the leadership's direction thus far.
