In May and June 2012 the Assemblies of God, the Presbyterian Church in America and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church all published reports that clearly reject the Muslim-idiom translation (MIT) approach that is advocated by Wycliffe Bible Translators and Frontiers. Here is a brief selection: Insider Movement Premise: Filial language (i.e. “Father” and “Son”) and the phrases “Son of God” and “Son of Man” are not divinely inspired terms that must be literally translated Challenge: If the Bible is divinely inspired (2 Tim. 3:15-16) so that even the use of a word in its singular form (e.g. “seed” in Gal. 3:16) points to Jesus, how much more three of the most important designations of our Lord: “Son,” “Son of God,” and “Son of Man”? Jesus' use of different names and titles for Himself is consistent with God's self-disclosure through different names in the Old Testament. If these three designations can be substituted with other words and phrases ultimately these terms are superfluous to understanding the Person of Jesus.
